Is your jar full?

A Professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front
of him. When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large and
empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then
asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.

So the Professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the
jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas
between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was
full. They agreed it was.

The Professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of
course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar
was full. The students responded with an unanimous "Yes."

The Professor then produced two cans of beer from under the table and
poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty
space between the sand. The students laughed.

"Now," said the Professor, as the laughter subsided, "I want you to
recognize that this jar represents your life.

The golf balls are the important things - your family, your children, your
health, your friends, your favorite passions - things that if everything
else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.

The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house,
your car. The sand is everything else - the small stuff."

"If you put the sand into the jar first", he continued, "there is no room
for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all
your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the
things that are important to you. Pay attention to the things that are
critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get
medical checkups. Take your partner out to dinner. Play another 18. There
will always be time to clean the house, and fix the disposal. Take care of
the golf balls first, the things that really matter. Set your priorities.
The rest is just sand."

When he had finished, there was a profound silence. Then one of the
students raised her hand and with a puzzled expression, inquired what the
beer represented.

The Professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no
matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of
beers."

A pretty event full month so far. This is the time of year when it gets hectic and the days go by so quick that next thing you know it's a new year. To start it off, I was in San Diego listening to Dwele and the following week I was in Vegas celebrating another digit. (Sorry no pictures from Vegas, simply because-what haven't you NOT seen in from there?) This weekend was my six year wedding anniversary as well. On 11/11/11 for Veterans Day, North Carolina faced off against Michigan State for their season opener. What an experience it must have been for everyone in attendance. Temperature's Rising

It's been four straight scorching days of over a 100 degrees in the San Fernando Valley and there is no signs of a cool down. Yesterday we thought of getting away so we took a 20 minute drive south to downtown Los Angeles. We checked out the Grand Central Market which was at the bottom of the historic Angels Flight. Don't know much about this cable car of sorts but it's been here for some time and was shut down for a bit due to some casualties (You know I didn't hop on that thing). It was definitely a nice change of scenery but it was still hot as hell and on top of that we were out walking around. Next time we are headed to the beach!

First time ever having this dish and it didn't disappoint. There's not too many Puerto Rican restaurants here in LA which could be a result of a smaller population. We have a Mexican restaurant in every square block and I can be sure that New York probably has the same when it comes to Puerto Rican food. Well I'm glad I gave this a shot...plantains, pork and a gang of garlic how can you go wrong? Check out our waiters tat, that's some crazy love for your country.

My lil niece came by later that evening for some ice cream and you know I had to add a shoe shot.

Not much going on as far as post worthy material is concerned. I mean how can someone say they're too busy but there is absolutely no recollection on what made the days seem so short and not have enough time to finish everything. Time sure flies and I blame all of it on age which go hand in hand with responsibility lol. Think about it, remember those summers back in the day that lasted an eternity or just hanging out with the boys over the weekend. Weren't those the best?
Sure felt like time was a bit slower back then and there was no care in the world. Now we have schedules and routines to follow which in turn leads to an accelerated pace of life. I guess you can call this the "B" side. You know the side that has too many fillers and maybe one or two cuts that you actually like. Well that's what it is...a daily routine filled with schedules and deadlines. So every now and then we must break break away from the norm. Speaking of which, I'm headed to Vegas tomorrow. So we decided that Santa Monica would be the location and it turned out to be a great day...you know the ones that make you really appreciate the city you reside in. I'm not quite sure what goes through these peoples minds when a sports franchise wins a championship. Why does it become an open invitation to cause havoc and riot in the streets? Yeah I'm sure you're happy but there are different ways to support your team and how about understanding the game first. I've seen it too many times. Go team! We won!!! MVP! etc. Did you know what it took to get to the finals? Did you know that Kobe had a terrible game? Can you even dribble a basketball?

Yes, it's happens in every city but I can only relate to this place. It's very sad to see because win or lose it's inevitable.

GAME 7

The last time we had a game 7 for the NBA finals was back in 2005 and it was a match up between the San Antonio Spurs vs. the Detroit Pistons. Not to take away anything from that game but what's about to unfold tomorrow is a classic rivalry between two teams that lead the league in championships. Lakers with 15 and the Celtics 17. As a kid growing up in the 80's and being from LA, I was exposed to the madness. These two teams met in 1984 (another series going 7 games), 1985 and 1987 which the Lakers came out with two victories. In 2008 the two meet once again with the Celtics taking back the crown .

Now we await the 2010 champions.

Memory Lane

This might not seem at all interesting to most but I had an opportunity to pass by my old neighborhood in Torrance, CA. It's funny how time flies but certain things just don't change. The first picture is of our old apartment building which seemed untouched except for the half of dozen kids on their skateboards and freestyle bikes blocking the drive way. A picture of my Junior High and an all familiar intersection can be seen as well. Finally a set of pictures that I can use the vintage effect on that is well suited.

I completed a few projects over the weekend.

First is an Air Max 90 premium that Nike has once again managed to cut corners and leave out a few details that makes this model stand out. The base shoe is completely Gray which to me is fine but leaving the mid sole an entire color just irks me. So I decided to do a little cement splatter and lace switch. What do you think?

Next up is some work I did for my boy Cris. Just a little teaser shot but I'm sure if you check here http://www.crisone.net/ in a couple of day you will see the final product.

From VA to LA

James (neukicks) and Lauren were here this past weekend from Virginia.
We hung out in Santa Monica on Friday at Barcopa Lounge http://www.barcopa.com/ (sorry no pics that night) and Saturday was an all out sneaker/shopping tour. Mitchell (gswarriorz) was along from the ride as well. We planned on ending the night with dinner at Roscoes but sadly the line was too long and everyone was hungry and exhausted. We parted ways so Karen and I ended it with some Peruvian Food from Mario's on Melrose and Vine.

Well it's 3-2 Boston now. The Celtics are healthy once again and running on all cylinders. Would love to see a Lakers vs. Boston Finals. Classic!

Just a little update today coz I felt like snapping some shots.

Fixed up dinner and watched the game.

Grilled some Chicken, Eggplant and Zucchini. The vegetables got a dressing of Olive Oil, Whole Grain Mustard, Garlic, Balsamic Vinegar, Salt and Pepper. All put together with a Salad, Feta Cheese and Tzatziki Sauce.

I met up with a few members of the AMFAM for a little SoCal summit. Edwin/UltraFlatBlack brought us to a shop on Fairfax that had tons of vintage Nikes. The saying "Like a kid at a candy store" came to my mind instantly. Even though I was unable to find anything worth purchasing in my size, It was fun going through boxes and seeing old stuff. This reminds me of the good ol days when you find gems at a discounted price rather than paying an arm and a leg on Ebay for em.

Yesterday I was invited to play some ball on the roof top of the Nike Sportswear Store on Hollywood and Vine. Field Trip...

Well that's what Karen called it. Every year we take off from work to do our taxes and fortunatley this time we got done early.
First mission was Food, we drove around for a bit and ended up at the historic Philippe's http://www.philippes.com/They've been doing French Dips since 1908.

So we head to Olivera St. for a bit. I lived in LA almost all my life and this is my first time going. Lots of street vendors selling everything from belts, wresting nacho libre masks, toys and food (too bad I was still full)
J town Lil Tokyo was the next spot(Check out the parking meter that takes plastic) I frequent this area due to the RIF a dope consigment store in LA http://www.rif.la/. Check them out if you're ever in the area. Finally we head to the Fashion District. Now this place is a world of it's own! I wish I was able to take more shots...I had one crazy lady already trippin coz she thought I took a picture of her.

I wake up yesterday doing my normal routine (breakfast, coffee and surf the internet). I look outside and I see the that it's somewhat clear considering that SoCal is expecting heavy rains for the next five or six days, I guess it's the calm before the storm. While on the net I googled sunsets in LA and came up with some amazing photographs that basically inspired me to take a drive down to the beach. The day that a lot of Air Max fans have been waiting for has finally arrived. On Thursday 11/12 NikeID has once again put up the Air Max 1. The options were better than expected, mesh being the number one concern and this was delightfully provided in 3 color choices. The color placement and materials were good enough to come up with simple colorways. So now the frenzy begins as only a limited number of orders are taken each day. I was lucky enough to order 2 pairs as I didn't mess around too much with the options. I started off simple and we'll see how Nike come through. The first pair is a take off from the Euro OG Mesh and the 2nd is a combination of every Gray based 87's I own. Now the waiting game is in full effect 28 days and counting.

I also posted a new addition to my collection. A deadstock (not for long) pair of Air Max2 Light with original box. Thanks to my boy Ben in PA for hooking it up.

Last but not least, another victory for Manny Pacquiao. It was a great fight, I give props to both fighters.

The problem with surfing the web is looking for stuff you don't really need. How often have you gone on ebay and run into a deal that you can't even pass up. In this case I go through my morning routine (NT,ISS,POTN, Ebay, etc.) it's like reading the paper with my cup of coffee.

Well there are two things I have my sights on....first is a new glass for the camera. The Canon 24-105L which might be a problem due to it's price tag $1,100 + retail . The other is the Nike Air Max 1 "Patta" quickstrike. I told myself that I will only pick up this up if I find it locally and for retail.

Now let's see if I can stick with that.

My Last Goodbye...

On Sept. 4th my Lola Alice passed away. I don't really react instantly to deaths, mainly because I hold a lot of emotions in. I usually lose it when I say my final goodbyes. This will be a hard one for my to take. An extraordinary, strong and intelligent person she was. I owe her a lot and she will always be with me. Love ya Lola..

I think I figured out how to post pictures in here lol!

I wanted to see what the hype was all about with these Kobe IV's. I've balled in the Zoom Kobe I's, II's and III all are in heavy rotation. Like everyone else I was skeptical with the shoe being a low top but after being on the court you hardly notice it. So far the cushioning is good and traction is excellent. Only got in about 5 hours of play total in them. Let see if they hold up
